Does every hospital need a fulltime Board Certified Security Professional as a security and loss prevention manager? The answer is "No." However, the key word in the above question is "full-time." Every business does require security expertise several times throughout the year. Anyone who doubts this need only look at the proliferation of security derived lawsuits sweeping the country as just one justification. In most of these lawsuits, which are primarily premises liability suits, we find that the security manager is under-qualified. We know that a fully qualified security manager, with 10 to 20 years of experience, can demand a six figure salary.

SMSI, through its VSM program, is able to bundle a number of critical services provided by Certified Protection Professionals (CPP), with more than 100 years of diversified security management experience. A visit to the SMSI Inc. Website (www.smsiinc.com) will more fully define this innovative service. This service is applicable whether you are using in-house or contract security services. What are some reasons to consider using SMSI's VSM?

· The current security budget does not demonstrate ROI (Return on Investment)

· Concerns about how to deal with terrorism threats

· There is no ability for trend analysis in order to plan for the future

· Security vendors take unfair advantage and often over-sell

· The security budget seem to be too high

These are just a few reasons that VSM should be considered.

How does VSM work?

Typically, in order to establish a base-line, first an onsite security audit is conducted by SMSI which includes a CAP Index Crimecast Survey. This audit will evaluate threat and risk levels against the security countermeasures presently in place. From this assessment will emerge a set of solutions aimed at obtaining maximum results for the least amount of money.

SMSI will then help implement and sustain these recommendations. We will establish an online security incident tracking program. This system will be customized site-by-site and SMSI will train security personnel how to use the system. On a monthly basis, SMSI will analyze all security logs and incidents. SMSI will look for emerging trends, recommend countermeasures, and shift assets from unproductive methods. All security methods will be monitored for coast-effectiveness.

Numeric and graphic reports will be submitted to the client, along with a written report.

The SMSI VSM also includes unlimited telephone and/or email support. The objective is to take your existing security program and make it more productive and efficient, and back the program up with measurable results. With the help of SMSI's VSM, a mediocre security operation will be elevated to a new professional level.

The VSM program will also engage all employees and tenants (where applicable) in full participation in a Security Awareness Program (SAP). The goal is to create a Neighborhood Watch Program in the work place. Employee and tenant involvement is far less costly and much more effective than additional security guards or the addition of a bunch of new CCTV cameras. People in the work place, who are fully motivated and engaged, are a more effective deterrent against crime than a few new cameras or one or two additional guards.

Facilities that use uniformed security officers will benefit from VSM. SMSI will shore up training deficiencies, provide structure via policies and procedures, and ensure high quality, consistent reporting.

All of these services and others resulting from the SMSI VSM will reduce vulnerability and risk, and, therefore, reduce liability exposure. VSM will protect your interests in dealing with security vendors. VSM will reduce the potential for loss of supplies and fixed assets. Security and Loss Prevention programs are not static. These programs are very situational and must flex with ever-changing needs. Security program should be in concert with Homeland Security objectives. Corporate security programs should be in harmony and partnership with local Police jurisdictions.

The VSM program offered by SMSI will ensure that all of these objectives are being met. The SMSI Team will visit each site several times per year. After the initial security audit, SMSI will conduct an annual assessment upgrade at no additional charge. SMSI will also develop Security Awareness Literature for both employees and tenants so that each will clearly understand their role in supporting a sound security program.

The VSM program is somewhat analogous to the service providers hospitals often use on an outsourced basis. Hospitals often outsource food services, housekeeping and other environmental services, and facilities management. SMSI offers a specialized expertise that will get more out of the existing security program, The backbone of this service are the online Incident Reporting and Daily Activity Logs. This information provides SMSI with a micro management tool that enables their security professionals to continually tweak the security program to ensure it always meets current needs. To learn more about this program visit www.smsiinc.com and take the VSM test.
